For ages, I have. made notes on ideas that spring to mind, often spurred by conversations, or things I see, or perhaps chance thoughts, I have as I often promote, have noted these idas in my moleskin, or iPhone, I have alway shied away from computer systems, they just did not allow free form thoughts to be portrayed in the way my mind works, the moleskin has always allowed my to jot, expand and rethink an idea, the idea is not new, Leonardo de Vinci used must the same method, and he like me must have come up against the same problem, where did I make that note, and did I expand it on another page,

my A4 day book, overcomes the last problem because it allows me to insert pages so keeping together ideas and thoughts, the mole skins I have are littered with ideas, but separated by many pages and quite often books.

So again one of those moments came about that made me realise there might be another way, that is using the same template in google docs I use for my CPD records, it offers some of the things I want, but is not quite right, Searching is not good and linking ideas that I might think fit, some times just don’t fit the search or ways of a spread sheet.

My mind then drifted to the WordPress program I use, it have a decent search plugin, and has a great way of tagging. Pictures could be inserted and also w links to both photos and PDF documents, would solve yet another problem, so is the CPD weblog going to change, perhaps, invention, or design, or just thought progression, should be the domain of any technologist, note my dropping of the Architectural preface, my thoughts on this are ever expanding and I no longer want to be tied to just one science, but many, but more on this later, more to the point in hand I think.

But what’s about evernote, I have and still do use it to pull together notes and web links, it allows both text URL When I do research, I often , no alway’s collect information, web sites, note etc on Evernote, I have mentioned this before, it has a great tagging, notes are just fine, and I can add sound, but is this the right mediam for my constant daily jottings, notes scribbles, against WordPress, paper, or google doc spreadsheet

But, I’m still with paper I’m afraid, pencil, ink and colour just make the difference, but once a project is complete, I think Evernote is the place to store it, and add additional notes as I see fit, but paper still allows that freedom of expression, that ability to innovate and doodle, that the computer just does not allow. If you ever get the chance find the 20 or so diary notes of Leonardo Da Vinci, his notes and thoughts are excellent reading.

That is until it tried the new google mail app for the iPad, this has a sketch mode, that is promising , if not verging on exciting, because I can start a normal email, add my verbal notes and add a sketch, it just lack colour and the feel of paper and ink, but it’s better than nothing, we’ll see.
