I saw a tweet this morning for an item called The Laiserin Letter, (ISSUE No. 26 — SPECIAL EDITION >> MARCH 2010) which promoted Vectorworks and Bim, so I had to follow it up, and eventually found Jerry Laiserin’s web page and a raft of very useful articles, not least the “Designers Bim”, Its a long article and needs time to digest, but its worth the effort. Jerry is a trained architect, so has a foot in the door already, this shows in his analysis of BIM, and what really makes this article worth reading is his comment, not all project can benefit from BIM, so true. There are many mentions of Vectorworks and it shows just how good the Architect package has become at managing BIM at a high level.

I don’t always agree with his comments, but that is the nature of Vectorworks, BIM, and Architecture. BIM has been around for a long time, it’s not a recent invention, it’s just come of age and the information  input, either by notes of embedded within the drawing via objects has transformed the industry, or should I say transforming the industry, that and the advances of 3D are making huge waves and saving loads of time and therefore money. I would recommend you download this fascinating article from Jerry, and whilst your at it, subscribe to his news letter, I have a feeling we will be seeing more of him in the future.
