A local railway bridge local to my home is undergoing repair, or perhaps it better to say expansion as the line is being upgraded to take bigger freight, and the one arch is just to low, so its being removed and replaced by a new square set of beams, giving more hed height. So why mention this, well these guys are on a tight schedule, and working all night to get the track ready for the morning trains, as the section was closed to all trains over the weekend,. The company have erected a foot bridge to allow people , not cars to still get from one side to the other.
As you can see from the photo, its precarious work, removing some of the old brickwork ready for the new structure, is there CPD here, of course, just look at the photo, there’s another one on my flickr.com/scays site. there is the brickwork to the basic arch, the concrete lining to the existing bridge, installed previous, then there is the way the guys are having to work, H&S might require a safety barrier, or scaffolding but as there is to much waste bwk to removeĀ and transport away, this is just not practical, plus installing the new beams into such a tight space, would not allow the installation of scaffold so they work with care. Interesting and well worth some time just standing there watching them work.
