So why did I attend this event Energy 09, please remind me, oh yes to check up on smart metering for the domestic market, well thats what I thought, but having spent the best part of an hour waking around a very crampt series of exhibition hall, I must say I was very disappointed, ok if your looking for a multi million $ set up for a large new town or have a massive energy hungry factory unit, then this was the place to be, and you would have companies crawling to your feet, but for the small end of the market, there was just nothing, Zilch. I was very disappointed,  OK so there were lots of smart meters about, and ASL have a very nice modem to communicate the data, but is not for the small domestic house, its just to small, and you certainly would not like the cost of the bespoke software £1000 +, So were to next I hear you cry, well back to google search and the BBC who have a nice little video, but as many of the comments say, whats in it for me, I can save 10% but do I have to keep checking al the time to see whats going on, most people will just not do this.

Energy Retail have more usefull info, and links but even they are still waiting for the Government to say just how its going to work.

I for one will do it as soon as I can, but I am more than interested in this technology, others might not be so welcoming. Also why should I have to be tied to one supplier, I want my own smart meter to choose who supplies, based upon price, first and an imput from me as to service and performance.. I want a meter to look at all my energy options from PV, wind to geothermal, I want it to look at my neighbors and see if they have spare capacity, its not much to ask, have a look at this wiki site and just see how far other countries have progressed

I’m stil keen on the Google powermeter system, their site has some usefull videos and links, its USA based, but this should not stop the technology spreading if the demand is there., Here one guy is quoted as saying he has achieved 60% savings, how and why, its not stated, but even so anywere close is interesting.
